Keep Your Kids (and mine) In School

Everyone asks what is wrong with public education?  How will we fix it?  I have a few ideas, starting with quit giving the kids so many god damn days off.  Fall break, winter break, spring break.  Presidents Day, Records Day, and more.

I love my children madly, but all these days off is ridiculous.

Yesterday was some kind of records/testing/I don't know the f-ing reason day off of school for my kids.  And we managed to fill it with lots of playtime, library, bike riding, "The Voice" watching and more.

Take a little look:

Here's a video I made at Blissdom for ConAgra Foods.  While I don't think they will be calling me to be their new spokesperson, it was fun to stand under a boom mic and pretend.  And now it's awesome to help spread the word about how anyone can help end child hunger.

It blows my mind that more than 1 in 5 children in the U.S. don't know where their next meal is coming from. More than 16 million children in the U.S. face hunger.  The face of child hunger is different than you might think.  It's not just starving or homeless children.  Often, it's a one- or two-income family that has suffered from the economy and have depleted their savings.

Here's what you can do to help:

  • Enter codes from participating ConAgra Foods products at www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com, and remind your friends, family and readers to do the same
  • Join the conversation by tweeting with the #childhunger hashtag throughout the campaign

Fun bonus: When they enter a code at www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com, they will get access to the "Here’s Hope" song by Jewel, Jay Sean or Owl City, plus exclusive, behind-the-scenes content
